The Scorpio East Group was founded in 1994 by Mr John Ho. Originally
known as Golden Mandarin Video Pte Ltd, it was renamed Scorpio East Entertainment
Pte Ltd in 2002. In late 2004, the Group was reorganized with the formation
of Scorpio East Holdings Ltd.
Subsequently,
we incorporated Scorpio East Pictures (Hong Kong) Ltd and Scorpio
East Entertainment Sdn Bhd as our
wholly-owned subsidiaries in
Hong Kong and Malaysia respectively. These corporate vehecles will
be used to further the Group's long-term plans in the region. At
the same
time, Scorpio East Multimedia Pte Ltd, Scorpio East Pictures Pte Ltd
and later Scorpio East Entertainment Pte Ltd were reorganized under
the holding company Scorpio East Holdings Ltd.
The
Scorpio East Group has come a long way since its birth in 1994.
It has grown from a
small distributor of mainly Chinese home entertainment
video products, to a significant player in this industry, with a
strong team of 70 staff and an annual turnover of nearly S$20 million
today.
In 2003, the Scorpio East Group succeeded in securing the much coveted
exclusive licence to distribute Hong Kong's Television Broadcast
Ltd (TVB) programmes in Singapore, which marked a major milestone
for Scorpio
East. In recognition of its consistently good performance, TVB renewed
Scorpio East's exclusive licence for 1 year in 2004 and a further
2 years in 2005.
In
October 2003, Scorpio East was also granted an exclusive sub-license
from TVBI for the distribution of China Central Television
(CCTV) programmes,
in Singapore. CCTV is China's largest national television network.
In
October 2005, Scorpio East obtained the video distribution rights
from Buena Vista Home Entertainment Inc ("BVHE"),
a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Company, to manufacture and distribute
VCD and to distribute DVD of titles released by BVHE in Singapore.
